Coming home…

Thursday, February 5th, 2009 by calixton

…late. Waiting at Richmond. Retirement event for a former coworker has sent me home late (well, it’s only 7 o’clock). At least it’s not raining anymore.

525 meets dawn…

…and 540 meets dusk. Just another day on the train. (I didn’t spend the whole day on the train—I got off to go to work in the middle.)

Weathered sconces…

…at Richmond BART. Late this afternoon. (This late afternoon thing is becoming a theme.) I don’t know if these light fixtures were painted at one time or if they’ve just been bleached by sun, wind, and rain. Or, it could be from pigeons or seagulls (I hope not).

Edited sky…

…over Richmond, California. Late this afternoon. No major edits here. Just painted out a hawk flying high in the distance and a couple of street lamps. “I reject your reality and substitute my own.”

Two levels…

…of the Downtown Berkeley BART station, Christmas Eve morning. Slow day today. Got in to work, had coffee, checked email, had lunch, headed home. Happy Christmas Eve Day!

Monday morning…

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 by calixton

…nothing special. Standard start yesterday. A little slow off the blocks. Caught the sunrise over the slough. Got my cafe car special: BART ticket, breakfast croissant, and coffee. (It’s not really a special, but the BART ticket is discounted.) After the recent quesadilla debacle and my previous unhappiness with the new breakfast burrito, the egg […]

New breakfast…

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 by calixton

…worse than than old breakfast. I was introduced this morning to a frightening new train-based mobile breakfast technology: the Breakfast Bacon and Egg Quesadilla. Deceptively simple in its appearance and microwave-delivery, the quesadilla belied its complex factory-preparation and lab-based ingredients. And, it tasted terrible. Actually, it wasn’t how the quesadilla tasted, it was the texture. […]

New day…

…a really new day.

One problem…

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 by calixton

…one solution (and one additional problem). As I’ve kvetched about before, there are challenges to taking photos on the train. There’s motion: swaying like a ship in 15-foot seas; vibration like a hideously unbalanced clothes dryer. Lighting: cars with zero interior lighting; cars with bland fluorescent lighting. People: passengers thinking anyone with a camera is […]
