Happy Thanksgiving!
What we’ve been up to (or, what we’re saying we’ve been up to).
…chicken.
Happy Thanksgiving!
…nothing special.
Standard start yesterday. A little slow off the blocks. Caught the sunrise over the slough. Got my cafe car special: BART ticket, breakfast croissant, and coffee. (It’s not really a special, but the BART ticket is discounted.)
After the recent quesadilla debacle and my previous unhappiness with the new breakfast burrito, the egg and bacon [...]
…worse than than old breakfast.
I was introduced this morning to a frightening new train-based mobile breakfast technology: the Breakfast Bacon and Egg Quesadilla. Deceptively simple in its appearance and microwave-delivery, the quesadilla belied its complex factory-preparation and lab-based ingredients.
And, it tasted terrible.
Actually, it wasn’t how the quesadilla tasted, it was the texture. Part of the [...]
…in Davis.
Actually, order takeout food from Sam’s, eat at home. The place ain’t much in the looks department, but the food is great.
Miss T and I don’t mind cooking, but I don’t think either of us has ever attempted to make Mediterranean food (beef shawarma, lamb kebab, falafel, etc.). There’s no reason for us to [...]
…was a day of rest and reflection. I.e., we didn’t do much of anything.
Miss T and I did manage to get out of the house and over to Sacramento, and we stopped off for a late lunch at a favorite place, Harry’s Cafe. On Harry’s suggestion, I had two eggs over fried rice (eggs sunny-up; [...]
…in the lounge car.
I was running late this (Wednesday) morning. Consequently, I was treated to the sun rising over the marsh between Suisun and the Carquinez Strait (about midway through my commute). To celebrate, I ordered a sumptuous Capitol Corridor breakfast—coffee and a breakfast croissant—to accompany my discounted BART ticket.
The plate in the photo is [...]
…Berkeley, California.
Jupiter is a beerhouse in Downtown Berkeley that bears little resemblance to its planetary namesake. The one astronomical nod to our planetary system’s fifth member is in (the beerhouse) Jupiter’s logo: a red spot to match (the planet) Jupiter’s Great Red Spot storm. There’s also (the beerhouse) Jupiter’s Red Spot ale which I’ve tried [...]
…in Berkeley.
One of my coworkers, chocolateCat, recently celebrated a birthday. Our art director, la bel artiste, used this to turn last Tuesday afternoon into a special, gelato-based occasion.
An email invitation was sent out: “Let’s go down to the gelato place at 3:45,” it read. “Also, I think someone recently had a birthday. Anyway, gelato. Gelato [...]
…at Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB).
Now that Cal has started up again for Fall, finding a vacant spot to sit and muse can be challenging during campus high traffic hours (10 a.m.–2 p.m.). I tried out the courtyard at VLSB last week—it was pleasant enough, but table seating is extremely limited. I think there are [...]
…on mango.
I met up with Kamen Rider at Cultivé, one of Downtown Davis’ two (!) frozen yogurt shops. Cultivé used to be known as Swirl, but changed their name at the behest (threat of lawsuit, maybe?) of the much larger NYC– and L.A.-chain, Pinkberry.
While I’m not a huge fan of bacteria-laden desserts, I asked Kamen [...]
