My Tour of Italy…

Tour of Italy

…on a plate at Olive Garden on Mother’s Day.

For mom’s day this year, Miss T and I took my folks out for lunch. Mom’s choice? Olive Garden.

From what I understand, on weekends, Olive Garden is a zoo—on Mother’s Day, it’s a zoo-and-a-half. But, any restaurant, nationwide-Italian-casual dining-chain or otherwise, is a Mother’s Day destination, so waiting for a table is nigh unavoidable. We timed our arrival for 3 p.m. (at the tail end of the post-Church lunch crowd and before the dinner rush), were told the wait was 40 to 45 minutes, and were seated after about half-an-hour. Not bad, considering how many mom-centered-parties I saw milling about.

I won’t go into everyone’s food orders (since I don’t have accompanying photos), but here’s what I consumed in honor of mothers in general and my mom in particular: The aforementioned (and aforepictured) Tour of Italy™—Homemade lasagna, lightly breaded chicken parmigiana and creamy fettuccine alfredo; and, Pasta e Fagioli—White and red beans, ground beef, tomatoes and pasta in a savory broth.

Considering that the meals served at Olive Garden are designed for and consumed by a nationwide audience, my meal wasn’t half bad. I’d even eat there again, if Mom wanted to.

Finally, in lieu of some poorly-chosen Mother’s Day gift on my part, I brought a cake which, as Miss T pointed out, looked like a hat. I didn’t notice the hat-semblance until Miss T mentioned it—a sign of my total lack of discernment. But, as we found out later at my folk’s house, the cake was fine, and an apropos finish to the festivities.

Happy post-Mother’s Day!
