An Inconvenient Post

Half-a-year ago one of my train-riding cohorts, Programmer K, asked if I’d seen the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, a.k.a. the Al Gore movie. I said, “No, but I’d like to.”

P.K, intent on supporting global warming and our town’s newly-refurbished theatre… actually, it was probably education about global warming… Anyway, he implored me to get off my duff and see An Inconvenient Truth. I said that the last time Miss T and I actually had gone out to the movies Walt Disney was still alive. The Al Gore movie would have to be out on DVD before I saw it.

When An Inconvenient Truth came out on DVD last November, Programmer K asked if I’d picked up a copy. I said, “No, but I’d like to.” Fed up with a) my dithering, and b) my lies, P.K opened up his MacBook Pro and proceeded to show me the first 15 minutes of the movie (we were commuting on the train and were approaching home). Even without sound (we watched the movie muted with subtitles on since we were on the train) just 15 minutes convinced me that I should see this movie.

An Amazon.com order and ten days later I had An Inconvenient Truth in hand. Later that week I watched the movie. The next day I booked one of our conference rooms at the office and scheduled an after-work showing. I’m not on a crusade or anything, but if you haven’t seen the movie, you ought to.

Thanks to Programmer K for getting me off my duff.
